The SAMURAI are often also referred to as bushi or buke with an original sense of serving/accompanying.
The word samurai originates from the word saburau which is interpreted as "those who serve and closely follow the nobility".
It is a warrior class that emerged in Feudal Japan, socially accepted and fully integrated from the 10th century AD. It was the Samurai who performed mixed functions of protecting the territory, as well as preserving social peace and public order. Over time, they rose to the highest social positions and dominated the Japanese political hierarchy for 9 centuries, until Japan opened up to the Western world at the end of the 19th century.
The Western Knights of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance
The Renaissance Martial Arts Association (ARMA) and the Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) are some of the groups that study the Martial Arts of Medieval and Renaissance Europe.
The surviving historical manuals preserved images and lessons from which the armed and unarmed combat of the time can be reconstructed and thus the arts and methods of the renowned European KNIGHTS are trained, which, as the name implies, were intrinsically associated with the art of chivalry, which gave rise to Horse riding and Equestrian. In general, they were nobles or were in the pay of a nobleman and their common denominator was the defense and propagation of the Christian religion.
The "HWA RANG" were a lineage of Korean warrior knights who achieved great notoriety in the 10th century, like the Japanese Samurai. These HWA RANG knights studied hand-to-hand fighting and the use of a huge variety of weapons such as swords and bows. The training was hard and exhausting, also relying on the typical oriental use of the positive energy resulting from the "CHI or GI" training.
In addition to martial training, the HWA RANG devoted much of their time to the study and development of arts and culture, as well as religion. Poetry, painting and Buddhism were an integral part of their daily lives and it is said that they were fond of the use of cosmetics, perfumery and aesthetic accessories.
